LabX, which is a public engagement program of the National Academy of Sciences, teamed up with scientists, including Dr. Gamble-George, game design experts, and gamers from around the globe in a two-week Game Jam called “Jamming the Curve.” The Jamming the Curve Game Jam was organized by The IndieCade Foundation (“IndieCade”), the National Academy of Sciences (“LabX”), and Seattle Indies. Dr. Gamble-George used her expertise as a public health professional to help mentor coders to create engaging games that can teach the public about the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) and persuade them to take the necessary actions to protect their own and others’ safety to do what health experts call “flattening the curve” or slowing down the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus (the number of cases of COVID-19) during the pandemic. She answered any scientific questions posed by the gamemakers. Gamemakers that participated in the Game Jam between 9/15/2020 and 10/2/2020 developed games based on epidemiological models built with real world scientific data regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr. Gamble-George

I love to empower people to become thought leaders and STEAM/STEMM innovators. I served as an expert science advisor for scientists that study chronic heart and lung diseases, HIV, and mental health. I also co-founded a biotech IoT application and device development company. As a scientist, I conduct research related to brain diseases and disorders, such as Alzheimer's disease, anxiety and stress-related disorders, and substance use disorders.
